Although she's certainly got the face for it, Gwen doesn't like hats. Most of tonight's photo shoot consisted of photos of Gwen removing her hat or Mommy trying to put it back on. Almost immediately, her neatly groomed hair was restyled into the mess you see in the photo on the left. Messy but cute. That's our girl!
I've included some older pictures of Gwendolyn wearing a hat. In each instance, she wore the hat for less than 3 seconds! (As always, click to see a larger view of the image).
Maddy, on the other hand, LOVES wearing a hat. She came to us on Gotcha Day wearing a pretty little dress with a matching hat. She wore the hat all day and was reluctant to give it up even at bed time.
When we gave her the pink floral hat to wear for the photo shoot tonight, she happily donned it and got cozy while she waited for us to finish taking Gwen's picture. Then she posed sweetly for her picture.
It's hard to believe that the child in the bottom two pictures (on the left) is the same child. Even harder to believe that they were taken only two months apart! When Maddy came to us, she seemed to be on auto pilot. She loved to play and seemed happy but she was emotionally detached from everything that was happening to her. It took at least three days for her to figure out that she wasn't going back to her foster family. Until then, she was completely distracted by all of the toys and her new playmate (Gwen). She was pale and skinny -- scary skinny! She wouldn't cuddle but she'd let you hold her. She'd let anyone hold her! Now she's at least two pounds heavier and she'll cry if Mommy leaves the room. It's a big change in such a small amount of time!
I cut her hair this weekend. She was such a good girl while I chopped away at her bangs with the scissors. Gwen would never stand for that and that's why she's never had a haircut. I think Maddy looks adorable with bangs. Her hair is very thin so we'll grow it out but we'll keep the bangs. Here's my pretty baby!
