Trick or Treat!

Gwen maddy halloween 2010 2
Without a doubt, this was our favorite Halloween so far!

The girls were counting the days and minutes until they could put on their costumes and beg door to door for candy.  What a weird tradition!  We attended a neighborhood costume party then hit the streets.  An hour later, we had more candy than any family should eat and two extremely tired kids!

And, as if getting candy wasn't already the most awesome part of Halloween, they got to HAND IT OUT this year too!  Seriously, I think they liked that part best of all.  They parked their kiesters just inside the front door and worked out all of the details about who would open the door and who would dole out the goods.  When the task was complete, they dismissed their door-guests with a sweet duet of "Happy Halloween!" then plunked back down to patiently await the next round of trick-or-treaters.  We're sure they would have kept this up all night if we let them but, alas, it was a school night so we eventually had to wash faces and brush teeth and trade those costumes for pajamas.  Even though they thought it was incredibly unfair and wholly unnecessary, two minutes later, they were both sound asleep!

(Since I'm sure someone will ask, that arrow Gwen is holding isn't real.  I Photoshopped it in!)

Here are a few more photos of our costumed cuties (minus the makeup):

Gwen hated this dress.  She only wanted to wear her Avatar costume.  Even though she was miserable, she sure did take some pretty photos!

Gwen body parts blog

I saw Mr Bones laying in a box in our garage and thought he might be perfect for the November theme over on We Picture {this}.  The theme is "Body Parts"!  Hee hee... even though I'm sure they had something else in mind, I like my take on it!

I hope everyone had a fun halloween!  We sure did!

Daughter Date Night

A couple of weeks ago, we decided it might be fun to try to have a Date Night with just one of our girls at a time.  It would be a chance for each of our daughters to have Mommy and Daddy all to themselves for an evening.

Gwen went first.

She loves plain chow-mien noodles so we took her to our favorite Chinese restaurant and ordered up a big batch of them.  Then we sat and chatted about all kinds of stuff while silently marveling at how different the dining experience was when we didn't have to referree any sibling disagreements.

After a fun dinner and fortune cookies, we got some ice cream and watched some kids practicing Tae Kwon Do kicks.   Then we picked up Maddy and headed for home.

The next weekend, it was Maddy's turn.

She wanted to wear a dress and insisted that I wear one too.  And she picked a sushi restaurant as our dinner destination.  She sampled the California rolls and ate a few pieces of raw shrimp before settling into a big bento box filled with teriyaki chicken, rice, salad and vegetable and shrimp tempura!  Mmmmm!  It was good!

Afterward, we got some ice cream and shared our favorite knock knock jokes!

We're going to make a habit of Daughter Date Night!  It's really fun!

Oliver

This is Michael's cat, Oliver.  He's an Egyptian Mau and he's one of the most interesting looking cats I've ever seen.  When he was a kitten, his fur was very pale gray and I often thought it had the slightest hint of purple!  As he's gotten older, his markings have become more distinct.  I love his "mask" and the way all of his features are outlined in black.     He's very inquisitive and social and extremely photogenic!   Look at those eyes!

Black & White Wednesday: Treasure

20100922IMG_2161beer cap treasure bw 1200 wide

A few days ago, Gwen found some stray beer bottle caps in one of our kitchen drawers.  Not sure how they ended up in there but she couldn't have been happier with her find.  She put them in a plastic bag and brought them to me and said "I found treasure, Mommy!"

This morning, I was making up her bed and found her bag of treasure under her pillow. Weird.  Cute, but weird.
