Scribble time

Scribble_1I put a video on for Gwen while I was packing for our upcoming China trip.  When I went to check on her, she wasn't watching the video. Instead, she was in her room and she was very eager to show me her "art".

She's such a little sweetie! I'm just glad she only scribbled on herself and her chair (not the carpet, walls or curtains!

We had fun washing it off in the bath.  She was laughing like crazy as I scrubbed her thighs since she's very ticklish!

Two Cribs!

2_cribs When we put up Gwen's crib back in 2004, it was really significant since we'd had more than a few pregnancy losses and never dared "jinx" ourselves by putting up a crib before there was an actual baby to plunk into it!  But we threw caution to the wind when we made the decision to adopt Gwenny.

So, it's not surprising that Maddy's crib means a lot to us too.   Andrew looked at it last night and said "Wow!  There will be a little girl sleeping there in just a few weeks!"

Gwen is starting to understand that Maddy will be in her room (and her life!) but I'm not sure she knows what the heck a "Maddy" is!

Leaving Aug 19, 2006

UPDATE: We purchased our plane tickets but had to cancel them because our agency wasn't able to get our Consulate Appointment (CA) the week of 8/28 as expected.    Our new CA is September 5th (the 1 year anniversary of Gwen's Gotcha Day).

We weren't too excited about the prospect of spending an extra 5 days (and another $1000 on hotel rooms) and getting home 5 days later but there wasn't much we could do about it.    In the end, we did manage to get a later flight but it's only one day later.  We're using the extra days in our schedule to push back our meeting with Madeline until we've had at least 24 hours in country.  So, here's our itinerary:

  • Sun 8/20/06 - Leave California
  • Mon 8/21/06 - Arrive in Nanning at midnight
  • Wed 8/23/06 - Meet Madeline (my mother's birthday)
  • Thurs 8/24/06 - Adoption is final!
  • Tues 8/30/06 - Fly to Guangzhou
  • Tues 9/05/06 - Consulate appointment
  • Wed 9/06/06 - Get Visa
  • Thurs 9/7/06 - Fly home

Aug2006It's official.  We leave on Saturday Aug 19th and arrive in Nanning at 15 minutes after midnight on Sunday night/Monday morning.  We'll get Maddy that same day (8/21/2006).  Let's just hope we can sleep a little bit on the plane cuz life's gonna be pretty hectic starting with Michael's move on the day before our flight!

We'll be staying at The Magestic in Nanning and will leave for Guangzhou on August 28th.  We probably won't visit QinZhou since we can't go to the orphanage and contact with the foster parents is prohibited.  We'll be at the China Hotel in Guangzhou and we'll come home on September 2nd.  We'll have two rooms (adjoining) at each hotel so the girls, if they do decide to sleep, won't be bothered by the click clacking of our keyboard as we post updates!

I heard from a wonderful person, today, who was able to tell me that Maddy's been sponsored in Foster Care for many months (we never knew!).  They have some reports to give to us after she's adopted.  They can't share them before her adoption but we were able to learn that Maddy's hair hasn't been cut and it's pulled into a ponytail on the top of her head like Gwenny in <this> picture.    She's also reported to be "developmentally on track" and appears to be happy and healthy.  We can get the full report after she's adopted.  That should be in only a week and a half!  Amazing how you wait and wait and nothing happens then it all happens at once!!

We're feeling nervous but also really excited and very blessed!

For those who need a "Gwen pic fix", there's a cute collage posted below.  Just click the link.

Double the pleasure!

Clothes_smDouble the pleasure, double the credit card debt!

This is a small sample of the double purchases we've made in the last 6 months.   We know the girls might not want to dress alike when they're old enough to understand how weird we are for making them do this but, for now, we're having fun!

It's going to be HOT HOT HOT in Guangxi at the end of this month so we're not packing many clothes.  We'll just plan to do laundry often and spend as much time as possible in the hotel's pool!

TA!!!

Ta_crop_2Day 77 was our lucky day!  We just got the TA call!

We're hoping to leave the week of August 21st! (right after moving Michael into the dorm at SJSU on the 18th).

Many have asked and, yep, we're bringing Gwenny with us.  Even though we're bracing for it to be challenging, we can't imagine leaving her behind.  We hope Madeline will get some comfort from Gwen and we hope Gwen will like having a little playmate.  But, like I said, we're bracing for the worst and hoping for the best!

We're not traveling with our agency's main group.  We could have, but we need to get Michael settled into the dorm before we leave.  Moving away from home for the first time is a HUGE life event and even though Maddy is waiting, we have three children and that includes our 18 year old son.

Our agency told us that they didn't expect the next group to leave until October.  Obviously, we're not waiting that long!  So, even though we loved being with a huge group last year when we adopted Gwen, we're excited about traveling alone for Maddy's adoption and we know that we'll be in good hands since our agency will arrange to have someone from their "China Team" meet us in Nanning and Guangzhou.

We're aiming to leave very early the week of August 21st and return about 2.5 weeks later.  We'll stay a little bit later because we want to do a teeny little pre-trip to Guilin in Guangxi province.  We need those two days to adjust to the new time zone and get Gwen settled in before we spring her little Mei Mei on her!

As we firm up our travel plans, we'll post the details here :)

UPDATE:  It kinda looks like we might be leaving on the 19th!  Everything was sold out on the other days. We're still checking and need to confirm that we can get our visas fast enough to travel in just 9 days!
