Leaving Aug 19, 2006
UPDATE: We purchased our plane tickets but had to cancel them because our agency wasn't able to get our Consulate Appointment (CA) the week of 8/28 as expected. Our new CA is September 5th (the 1 year anniversary of Gwen's Gotcha Day).
We weren't too excited about the prospect of spending an extra 5 days (and another $1000 on hotel rooms) and getting home 5 days later but there wasn't much we could do about it. In the end, we did manage to get a later flight but it's only one day later. We're using the extra days in our schedule to push back our meeting with Madeline until we've had at least 24 hours in country. So, here's our itinerary:
- Sun 8/20/06 - Leave California
- Mon 8/21/06 - Arrive in Nanning at midnight
- Wed 8/23/06 - Meet Madeline (my mother's birthday)
- Thurs 8/24/06 - Adoption is final!
- Tues 8/30/06 - Fly to Guangzhou
- Tues 9/05/06 - Consulate appointment
- Wed 9/06/06 - Get Visa
- Thurs 9/7/06 - Fly home
It's official. We leave on Saturday Aug 19th and arrive in Nanning at 15 minutes after midnight on Sunday night/Monday morning. We'll get Maddy that same day (8/21/2006). Let's just hope we can sleep a little bit on the plane cuz life's gonna be pretty hectic starting with Michael's move on the day before our flight!
We'll be staying at The Magestic in Nanning and will leave for Guangzhou on August 28th. We probably won't visit QinZhou since we can't go to the orphanage and contact with the foster parents is prohibited. We'll be at the China Hotel in Guangzhou and we'll come home on September 2nd. We'll have two rooms (adjoining) at each hotel so the girls, if they do decide to sleep, won't be bothered by the click clacking of our keyboard as we post updates!
I heard from a wonderful person, today, who was able to tell me that Maddy's been sponsored in Foster Care for many months (we never knew!). They have some reports to give to us after she's adopted. They can't share them before her adoption but we were able to learn that Maddy's hair hasn't been cut and it's pulled into a ponytail on the top of her head like Gwenny in <this> picture. She's also reported to be "developmentally on track" and appears to be happy and healthy. We can get the full report after she's adopted. That should be in only a week and a half! Amazing how you wait and wait and nothing happens then it all happens at once!!
We're feeling nervous but also really excited and very blessed!
For those who need a "Gwen pic fix", there's a cute collage posted below. Just click the link.
She seems to be saying "No more pictures, Mommy!"
She got this adorable pink and green outfit from the parents of Andrew's college buddy, Matt. Thanks so much! We love it and so does Gwen. We think it's especially stylish with those red Elmo slippers!
