Why do I blog?

Remember the days of the 110 camera?

20 years ago, I went on vacations and shared holidays and other special times with family and friends and took lots of pictures with my 110 camera. After paying a small fortune to have the film developed (always double prints!), I faithfully put those photos into photo albums and mailed the others to relatives and friends all over the country.

Fast forward to 2006 and I don't have my 110 camera anymore. I don't get film developed anymore either. My relatives can (sadly) confirm that I don't write letters. In fact, if they don't have email, they've not heard from me in years!

So here's how I share our life with friends and family and other people like us: Blogs.

I know my blog is just a drop in the China-adoption-blog bucket (There are sites like China Adoption Stories and Personal China Adoption Stories that confirm this) but I can't think of a better bucket to be in!

I subscribe to 114 blogs (I use www.bloglines.com) and I try very hard to, at least, scan every new post and even manage to comment every once in a while. All of these blogs are about China adoption. In time, I may branch out but this is my obsession de jour so I'm sticking with it. Here's my blogroll (not clickable since some of these blogs are private):

Eventually, I'll stop posting as much to this blog. After all, there's only so many new experiences I can share with you. For example, the first picture of Gwen feeding herself was really cute but would you want to see it three or four more times? Probably not.

But until I run out of new material, I'll keep sharing and I'll keep looking at my friends blogs too. I'm a Stay At Home Mom and Gwen keeps me very busy but I make time for my blogging friends because they're my link to the outside world. They help me maintain my sanity (and my sense of humor!).

Thanks for your friendship!

Piano

Gwen loves music.

Pretty much any kind of music.

She'll happily listen to anything from her big brother's alternative rock electric guitar solos to Andrea Bocelli's awe inspiring rendition of Ava Maria. *

Maybe the only thing she loves more than listening to music is playing music!

Or playing and singing too!

Here she is performing "Crocodile Rock". (She just loves Elton!)

"I remember when rock was young.
Me 'n Susie had so much fun..."

But every musician must eventually go beddy-bye......

Even if they'd rather come back for three our four encore performances.
Drats!

* But let there be no question. Her favorite band is The Doodlebops.

Daddy's got a brand new flash!!

Andrew got a pretty cool new flash for Christmas for our digital camera. He's finally had some time to try it out and it's pretty impressive!

I've always thought the best way to judge a camera was to take a picture of a cat and let the eyes tell the story. I think you'll agree that our Japanese Bobtail, "Kitty", is a great advertisment for this new flash! Just look at that pretty face!

In other news, here's Gwen and her new friend, Alec. At first, there was lots of competition but she warmed up to him after about 15 minutes.

Alec's parents attended MIT with Gwen's Daddy nearly 20 years ago! It's fun to see that they're good buddies now too!

Party!

A bunch of us who've adopted (or are adopting) from China get together every month or so. This time, we kicked things up a notch and Mary-Mia and I hosted a Chocolate Fountain party! We invited everyone we could think of and, to our surprise and delight, just about everyone came!
While we set stuff up, Mary-Mia's husband, Rod (above) kept Gwen entertained with some piano lessons.

I don't have a picture of them, but we were also really excited to see K of the Wunchmachen blog and finally meet her husband, F.

I would love to name everyone who came but I know I'd leave someone out so I'll just leave it as this.

Above, is Kat and Colin. It was fun to see them again and we can hardly wait until they have their daughter! I hope the time flies!
There was special reason to celebrate as our dear friend, Stacey, finally got Ryleigh's referral. .

Ryleigh will be turning 1 in a couple of days so Andrew baked a cake (from scratch!) and we all sang Happy Birthday. Stacey cried but we're not sure if it was our singing or the sentiment .

.........
Isn't Ryleigh just the cutest? Look at that tongue sticking out!

..........
(If you're in the SF Bay Area and you want to be included in future get-togethers, please email me or Mary-Mia. Our email address is in our profile on our respective blogs.)

This party was super easy since we did it as a potluck. The food was fabulous and we got to meet lots of new faces. Including some new baby faces! On the left is little Kelly (Lisa's baby girl) and there's Gwenny below her and "Dragonfly Diary" Helen sitting on her mommy's lap.

Above, Emma enjoys something yummy dipped in chocolate!

Baby Care 101

Throw away all those books written by so-called "experts" in child rearing. Gwen knows exactly how to care for a baby and she's sharing her secrets in this special pictorial! Grab a pencil and paper because you're gonna want to take some notes!
To feed your baby, hold her firmly by the hair and stick the bottle up her nose.
Then drink the bottle yourself. After all, Mommies need to keep their strength up!
Finally, kiss baby sweetly.

And that's how you take care of baby!

Any questions?
